Over 12,000 shipping containers carrying tariffed Chinese goods have begun arriving at the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, following the U.S. imposition of 145%-plus tariffs. Companies like Amazon, Home Depot, Ikea, and Tractor Supply are importing essential inventory, despite market uncertainty and escalating costs. While some firms are trying to absorb or adjust to tariff impacts, many shipments were already priced and sold before the new duties took effect. Container traffic from China has dropped sharply, with blank sailings and reduced vessel sizes signalling a broader slowdown. Importers now face confusion over complex tariff rules and fear looming product shortages once existing stock runs out.
