The Carbon Destroyer 1, Europe’s first purpose-built offshore CO₂ carrier, was officially launched and named at the Royal Niestern Sander shipyard in the Netherlands. Developed through a partnership between Royal Wagenborg and INEOS Energy, the vessel will support Project Greensand by transporting captured CO₂ from across Europe to permanent storage sites beneath the North Sea. Operating between Denmark’s Port of Esbjerg and the Nini West platform, the vessel marks a critical milestone in enabling large-scale carbon capture and storage (CCS) in Europe. It is expected to enter service by late 2025 or early 2026, once the associated CO₂ terminal and infrastructure are completed.
