German shipping company AG Reederei Norden-Frisia’s fully electric catamaran (E-Kat), the first of its kind in Germany, has completed official acceptance trials, paving the way for its arrival in Norddeich in January. Built by Damen Shipyards in the Netherlands, the 32.3-meter vessel can carry 150 passengers and features a charging capacity of 1,800 kW, enabling rapid 28-minute recharging for up to eight daily trips between Norddeich and Norderney. Part of a broader sustainability initiative, the vessel will operate with zero CO₂ emissions, cutting travel time to Norderney to just 30 minutes.
