NYK Line has taken delivery of the Padma Leader, a 7,000 CEU LNG-fueled pure car and truck carrier (PCTC) built by Imabari Shipbuilding’s Tadotsu Shipyard and classed by ClassNK. Delivered on October 30, the Japan-flagged vessel is designed to cut CO₂ emissions by up to 30%, eliminate SOx emissions, and reduce NOx by as much as 90% through an advanced exhaust gas recirculation system. The Padma Leader also recycles boil-off gas for power generation, further improving fuel efficiency. The newbuild forms part of NYK Line’s broader decarbonization strategy, with over 120 LNG-fueled car carriers and plans to expand its eco-friendly fleet by at least 20 more units by 2028.
