Evergreen Marine has entered a slot charter agreement on the Asia–West Coast South America 6 (WSA6) service, strengthening its presence on the Asia–Latin America trade lane. The move comes as direct service capacity on the Far East–Latin America route has surged by nearly 50% over the past year, driven by several new services launched in 2025. Total deployed capacity rose to over 4.1 million TEUs, reflecting intensified competition among carriers. Evergreen’s entry coincides with falling freight rates on Asia–South America routes, with spot prices hitting multi-year lows. The WSA6 service is operated by Yang Ming, Wan Hai and PIL, with Evergreen becoming the latest participant.
