ABS, HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE), Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), and Liberian International Ship and Corporate Registry (LISCR) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance ship safety. The MoU, signed at Posidonia 2024 in Greece, aims to eliminate ship safety blind spots by utilizing advanced technologies. ABS will provide support for design assessment, new technology qualification, and regulatory compliance, while also developing rule guidance. The ultimate goal is to increase seafarers’ situational awareness and potentially enable greater autonomy on board ships.
