Alternative-fuel vessel orders rebounded strongly in the third quarter of 2026, with 69 ships ordered in September, the highest monthly total since October 2024. DNV recorded 311 alternative-fuel vessel orders during the first nine months of the year, up 53% from the same period in 2025. LNG remained the dominant choice, accounting for 48 September orders, followed by ethanol and LPG-fuelled vessels. Alternative-fuel-capable ships now represent 5.2% of the global fleet, although many dual-fuel vessels continue operating primarily on conventional fuels due to cost and availability constraints.
