APM Terminals, part of A.P. Moller-Maersk, plans to invest $500 million in building a modern container terminal near the Mississippi River’s mouth. The project, initiated through an agreement with the Plaquemines Port Harbor and Terminal District, will develop a deepwater port on a 200-acre greenfield site, with potential expansion up to 900 acres. The terminal will feature on-dock rail and a berth for the largest ships compatible with the expanded Panama Canal.
