A new RBC Economics report highlights the improvements required to keep the Asia-Pacific gateway and the rest of Canada’s supply chain and transportation system competitive. The recent B.C port strike is listed as one example, but Canada needs more than labour relations and human resource availability. The report estimates Canada needs to invest at least $600 billion over the next 17 years to improve the delivery of the estimated $1.5 trillion in goods it moves annually. Additionally, it maintains that Canada needs more than additional spending on its logistics system, but rather a stronger national transportation strategy to improve the performance of goods movement.
