Campbell River-based Ocean Pacific Marine has been awarded a $74.7-million contract to design and build three new coastal patrol vessels for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. The 27-metre aluminum vessels will support law enforcement, search and rescue, and emergency response operations along British Columbia’s extensive coastline. The project is expected to create additional skilled jobs in the marine sector and generate work for a network of B.C.-based suppliers and subcontractors. The contract highlights the capabilities of British Columbia’s shipbuilding industry and is expected to provide long-term economic benefits while strengthening Canada’s marine enforcement and coastal security capacity.
