After 75 days of closure following the allision of the 9,962 teu Dali containership with the Francis Scott Key Bridge, blocking Baltimore’s main shipping channel, crews have finally lifted the last piece of the downed bridge. Using dredging buckets and a salvage grab, crews are now clearing smaller debris from the water to fully reopen the channel this weekend. The NTSB’s preliminary report revealed that electrical blackouts caused the fatal crash, with one outage occurring due to maintenance error and another shortly before the collision. Plans for a replacement bridge by 2028 are underway, while insurers anticipate significant claims resulting from the accident.
