BC Ferries has formally submitted its largest-ever capital investment proposal to the BC Ferries Commissioner, seeking approval to build five New Major Vessels (NMVs). The project aims to replace four ageing ferries and add one new vessel to boost capacity, reliability, and resiliency for BC’s busiest ferry routes. The NMVs would increase passenger capacity by 28% and vehicle capacity by 19%, reducing wait times and addressing growing travel demands as BC’s population rises. The first vessel is expected in service by 2029, with all operational by 2031.
