The BC Ferry and Marine Workers’ Union (Union) representing some BC Ferries workers want to reopen their collective agreement to increase wages. The Union warns that, without further negotiations, staff could quit resulting in ferry cancellations. In a recent survey of more than 4,000 members, the union found more than 50 per cent had taken on second jobs. Many ferry workers are leaving for competitors offering higher compensation packages and career development opportunities. The Union President is hopeful closing the wage gap with competing companies will increaser service stability
