The Tilbury Marine Jetty Project by Tilbury Jetty Limited Partnership, associated with FortisBC, has been granted an Environmental Assessment Certificate by the Province of British Columbia. This project plans to establish a jetty on the Fraser River near FortisBC’s Tilbury LNG facility, intending to enable trans-oceanic vessels to refuel with liquefied natural gas (LNG) at the Port of Vancouver. Highlighting its environmental advantages, the project points out that LNG from Tilbury, powered by hydroelectricity, has about 30% lower carbon intensity than the global average, offering a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and particulate matter compared to conventional marine fuels. FortisBC has engaged with over 30 Indigenous communities, securing consent and support from 12 nations, and entered an agreement with the Musqueam Indian Band for potential equity ownership in the project.
