The BC Maritime Employers Association (BCMEA) and International Longshore and Warehouse Union Ship & Dock Foremen Local 514 (ILWU Local 514) negotiations are continuing with mediated talks with the support of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS) however, the conciliation period concluded yesterday and the 21-day cooling off period has started. As it stands, the earliest either Party could exercise their legal right to strike or lockout is 12:01 am on May 10, 2024 if a strike or lockout mandate is given. The Parties are scheduled to continue mediated negotiations on May 8, 9 & 10 – there are no time limits on the mediation.
