A ZIM-chartered containership, the 5,504 TEU Mississippi, suffered a serious accident on September 9th while docked at the Port of Long Beach, causing 67 containers to fall into the harbour, with several damaging a nearby clean-air barge. No injuries were reported, but some containers were lost underwater. Early reports suggest a crane malfunction may have triggered the collapse. The US Coast Guard and the Long Beach Harbour Department have launched an investigation, while ZIM said it is cooperating with authorities to assess potential environmental impacts.
