The 9971-TEU container ship, MV Dalicollided with the Francis Scott Key Bridge early Tuesday morning while outbound from Baltimore to Sri Lanka following what appears to be a significant power failure 45 minutes after leaving Seagirt Marine Terminal. The CNN timeline indicates that the Dali struck the bridge column within 5 minutes of losing power despite calls for tug assist and efforts to slow the vessel down. The lives of six workers performing bridge maintenance at the time were lost. Investigations by the US Coast Guard, the National Transportation Safety Board, and Singapore are ongoing to determine the cause of the accident. The MV Dali, built in 2015 is registered in Singapore and owned by Grace Ocean Pte Ltd, charter by Maersk and managed and operated by Synergy Marine Group.
