The federal government has designated the proposed Pacific Link West Coast oil pipeline as a project of national interest, with Canada and Alberta to share ownership and Indigenous communities to be offered at least a 10% stake. Trans Mountain Corporation will lead development, with Pembina Pipeline participating as a private-sector investor, while the Major Projects Office and Canada Energy Regulator will work toward finalizing project conditions by September 2027. The proposed southern route would provide capacity to export an additional one million barrels of oil per day to Asian markets and would include development of a new marine export terminal in B.C.
