The federal government has released four “What We Heard” reports summarizing consultations on proposed reforms to major project approvals, transportation and supply chains, security clearances, and federal labour relations. Feedback generally supported faster and more predictable regulatory processes, stronger trade corridors and infrastructure, improved port governance, and measures to reduce supply chain disruptions, while also stressing the need to protect the environment and uphold Indigenous rights. Participants also identified weaknesses in the current transportation security clearance system and called for better tools to resolve complex labour disputes that can affect businesses, communities and trade. The findings will inform legislation expected in the next sitting of Parliament, including proposals for one-year federal project reviews, a Transportation Projects Office, corridor-based planning and reforms to the Canada Labour Code.
