Canada and Manitoba have pledged up to $60 million to the Arctic Gateway Group for finalizing the Hudson Bay Railway repairs, redeveloping the Port of Churchill, and supporting the economies of local communities. This investment aims to enhance the only year-round, all-weather transport link for northern Manitoba communities, crucial for supply chains and food security. Owned by a partnership of 41 First Nation and Bayline communities, the Hudson Bay Railway and Port of Churchill play a key role in regional connectivity, economic reconciliation, and national sovereignty in the Arctic. Previous efforts have already seen significant repairs and upgrades to the railway infrastructure.
