Enbridge expects Gulf Coast re-exports of Canadian heavy crude to rise significantly over the next decade as new and expanded pipeline capacity comes online. While the Trans Mountain pipeline has shifted some exports to Canada’s Pacific coast, Enbridge’s Mainline and Flanagan South expansions, along with potential future phases, are set to increase flows to the US Midwest and Gulf Coast. Current re-exports of 200,000 to 400,000 barrels per day are projected to grow, with markets such as India and parts of Africa seen as key demand centres. Additional proposals, including reviving segments of Keystone XL and further Trans Mountain enhancements, could further boost export capacity.
