MAN Energy Solutions has secured an order to supply propulsion systems for two new Arctic Offshore Patrol Ships (AOPS) for the Canadian Coast Guard, as part of a consortium with GE Power Conversion. Each vessel will be equipped with four MAN 6L32/44CR engines, delivering 3,600 kW each and featuring advanced common-rail injection technology, high-efficiency turbochargers, and variable valve timing. These systems are designed for the extreme conditions of Arctic operations and ensure Tier III emissions compliance with minimal environmental impact. The order is part of Canada’s National Shipbuilding Strategy, with construction by Irving Shipbuilding in Halifax. MAN will also provide service support through its local PrimeServ organizations. Additionally, the ships will feature two MAN Alpha five-bladed propellers, designed for enhanced performance and minimal underwater noise, crucial for the sensitive Arctic environment.
