The Haisla Nation and Pembina Pipeline Corporation have jointly announced a Final Investment Decision (FID) on the Cedar LNG Project, marking a significant milestone as the world’s first Indigenous community to develop an LNG facility as majority owners. Located in the traditional territory of the Haisla Nation on Canada’s West Coast, the Cedar LNG Project will feature a floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) facility with a capacity of 3.3 million tonnes per annum. The facility aims to utilize renewable electricity from BC Hydro, positioning it as one of the lowest emitting LNG facilities globally. Chief Councillor Crystal Smith highlighted the project’s role in economic reconciliation, showcasing Indigenous leadership in sustainable energy development while meeting global demand for cleaner energy solutions.
