On June 15, 2019, Transport Canada proposed new Navigation Safety Regulations, 2019 (now the Navigation Safety Regulations, 2020). These Regulations, which include the expansion of Automatic Identification Systems (AIS) carriage requirements, were expected to be published this spring and the coming into force date of the expanded AIS carriage requirements was supposed to be in spring 2021 – one year after the registration of the Regulations. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the publication of the Regulations has now been delayed to fall 2020.
