CMA CGM announced it will not levy surcharges on US-bound cargo despite looming port fees on Chinese-built or -operated ships set to begin October 14 under new USTR rules. The company said it has made “fleet and operational adjustments” to absorb the costs, which could reach $1–3 million per port call and escalate through 2028. Over the past six months, 22 Chinese-built vessels from its 141-ship US-calling fleet could be affected. Some larger Chinese-built ships, such as CMA CGM Hermes and CMA CGM Osiris, have already been redeployed to non-US routes. CMA CGM emphasized it will maintain US port coverage and explore future US shipbuilding options.
