CN has released its 2026–2027 Winter Plan, outlining investments and operational measures aimed at maintaining network fluidity and reliable service during severe weather. Initiatives include upgrades to its fleet of more than 100 distributed air braking cars, advancement of high-flow brake technology for extreme cold, and approximately $64 million invested in related technology. CN is also positioning employees, locomotives, snow-clearing equipment, backup power and critical materials across its network for rapid response. The railway emphasized that coordination with customers, terminals, ports and other supply-chain partners will remain critical when winter conditions constrain capacity.
