The British Columbia government reported a 7,500-litre diesel spill at a fish farm near Zeballos on Vancouver Island on December 14, caused by a fuel transfer operation. Grieg Seafood, the farm’s owner, deployed absorbent booms, but no recoverable diesel was found. Surveillance on December 15 confirmed visible sheen spreading toward Centre Island and Steamer Point. An Incident Command Post (ICP) has been established in Zeballos, with Unified Command involving Grieg Seafood, provincial and federal agencies, and local First Nations. The Canadian Coast Guard issued marine advisories and reported no further sightings of fuel. Grieg Seafood, as the responsible party, is legally required to manage the cleanup.
