Coordinator, Communications and Events

The Chamber of Shipping is a progressive industry association representing the interests of international commercial marine transportation companies, exporters and importers, and their agents that trade internationally and domestically. We strive to improve the competitiveness of the marine transportation sector while reducing the impacts of shipping on Canada’s unique coastal waters. With a head office in Vancouver, the nature of our work is global, national, and regional.


We are a small but close team of professionals that engages a network that is both global and local. No two days are ever the same and we pride ourselves on being nimble. Our work takes us to the intersection of trade, climate change, protection of the environment, and reconciliation. Learning, sharing, and growing personally and as a team go hand-in-hand with working at the Chamber. The Coordinator, Communications and Events supports all aspects of external and internal communications, including public and media relations, digital media, and communications and coordination with the Chamber’s clients. The Chamber hosts numerous committee and ad hoc meetings annually, and several events.


You are likely a recent degree/diploma graduate with a major in communications, public relations, or journalism and a couple of years of experience under your belt. You excel in writing and telling a story to an audience and thrive on being creative while exercising good judgement. You are also meticulous with details and able to coordinate multiple activities concurrently – you seek solutions and are comfortable with conflicting and changing priorities. You must be articulate and personable and able to build trusting and lasting relationships with team members, clients, and stakeholder networks.



  • Responsible for research, development, implementation, and evaluation of content within a portfolio that includes websites, print materials, digital campaigns, social media, video, photography and other assets.
  • Develops, measures and reports on the success of communications initiatives.
  • Researches, writes, edits and produces content for communication platforms including the websites, social media, reports, newsletters, digital signage, etc.
  • Provides communications advice and support to, and participates in, the planning of communications events and projects.

Web Management:

  • Coordinates the development, maintenance, and content management of websites.
  • Monitors website traffic, using Google Analytics and other diagnostics to ensure effectiveness and optimization.

Social Media:

  • Coordinates, maintains and publishes to social media channels, including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Flickr, and YouTube.
  • Creates and re-purposes relevant, high-quality content related to target audiences.
  • Monitors statistics of social media accounts and post engagement and recommends new approaches as needed.

Meeting/events coordination:

  • Coordinates committee and ad hoc meetings, including invitations, minutes, and supporting documentation.
  • Supports planning, logistics, and execution of occasional networking events and conferences.


  • Degree/diploma with major in communications or related field
  • 2+ years of experience in communications, event planning, administrative coordination
  • Articulate writing and oral communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Excellent organization, time management, and coordination skills
  • Proficiency in IT platforms and many types of media
