The Council of Marine Carriers’ (CMC) represents and furthers the interests and safety of its current and growing membership in the ever-evolving towboat and marine transportation industry in BC. The Council plays a significant role in formulating and advocating policies, legislation, and regulations through close working relationships with government and other industry agencies.
CMC is seeking a new President, who, while reporting to the Board of Directors, will continue to raise the profile of the organization, support and build the membership base and ensure the industry is current/ahead in legislative and regulatory developments. The President assists members directly with policy issues as well as represents the Council with government departments while maintaining strong alliances with other marine organizations. Annual plans and strategies are established with the Board, including bi-annual conference preparation, from which the President formulates the budget and delivers on accountabilities.
The ideal candidate must hold a marine Certificate of Competency as Master or Chief Engineer or an equivalent non-marine qualification and education and will bring to the role an inclusive and collaborative management style complemented by a minimum of 10 years management experience within the Marine Industry or Government. Being highly organized with an ability to develop and foster relationships with similar organizations are also critical requirements. An in-depth understanding and knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations is a necessity, familiarity of the regulatory change process and competency with Microsoft Office suite programs are also required.
