CPKC’s 2025–26 Grain Service Outlook sets a capacity target of up to 34 million tonnes of Canadian grain and grain products, dependent on market demand and supply chain efficiency. The plan includes a weekly capacity of 685,000 tonnes during Thunder Bay’s open season and 525,000 tonnes in winter. Emphasizing that the “grain supply chain is only as strong as its weakest link,” CPKC highlighted the need for full coordination among terminals, ports, vessels, and exporters. The railway moved over 27 million tonnes in 2024–25 despite challenges from labour disruptions, tariff issues, and severe winter conditions.
