Eureka Shipping, a leading provider of sustainable, high-efficiency cement carrier services jointly owned by SMT Shipping and The CSL Group is set to enhance its cement carrier services with a new, environmentally friendly ship designed for operations in the Great Lakes. This advanced vessel, with a deadweight of 12,500 metric tonnes, is under construction at Holland Shipyard Group in the Netherlands and is expected to be delivered in 2025. It will replace two older ships while maintaining the same cargo capacity. The vessel features a diesel-electric propulsion system, energy-efficient engines capable of using HVO biofuel, state-of-the-art cargo handling equipment, and various other eco-conscious innovations like LED lighting and extensive noise insulation. These advancements underline Eureka Shipping’s commitment to safety, operational efficiency, and particularly decarbonization, as the ship is expected to significantly reduce emissions per metric tonne of cargo carried.
