The Canadian Aquatic Ecosystems Restoration Fund (AERF) has allocated close to $9.3 million for four projects in British Columbia aimed at conserving and restoring aquatic habitats. Projects include restoring the Doobah Creek watershed by Ditidaht First Nation, enhancing estuarine resilience for salmon in the Salish Sea by SeaChange Marine Conservation Society, managing historic log handling sites on Haida Gwaii by the Secretariat of the Haida Nation, and cultivating and reintroducing giant and bull kelp in southern BC by The Kelp Rescue Initiative. These efforts, part of the Oceans Protection Plan, aim to address environmental threats, promote habitat restoration, and foster partnerships to protect Canada’s coastal and inland aquatic ecosystems.
