The Vancouver Maritime Arbitrators Association invites you to attend the next Seminar on the “Arbitrator Bias – Differing Approaches Around the World” on April 14th at 1 pm PST on Zoom.

We are honoured to have Murray L. Smith Q.C., Chartered Arbitrator as our Guest Speaker.  He received his Master of Laws, International Business Law, from the London School of Economics in 1989. He was called to the Bar of British Columbia in 1977 and qualified as a barrister in England and Wales in 1990.

Mr. Smith has presided over numerous international and domestic commercial arbitrations as chairman, party appointed arbitrator or sole arbitrator. He collaborated with Martin Hunter and Alan Redfern in writing the second edition of the leading text “Law and Practice of International Commercial Arbitration” and is a frequent lecturer about international arbitration practice. As an arbitrator in complex commercial cases, Mr. Smith recognizes the fundamental importance of due process and equal treatment of the parties while maintaining rigorous procedural oversight.

Currently practicing in Vancouver, British Columbia, his arbitration practice includes domestic and international commercial cases. He has acted as arbitrator in international commercial arbitrations under AAA (ICDR), ICC, BCICAC and UNCITRAL Rules.
