Evergreen Marine Corporation has placed an order worth approximately $3 billion for eleven LNG dual-fuel containerships, marking a shift from methanol-fueled vessels ordered previously. The new 24,000 TEU vessels will be built by CSSC Guangzhou Shipyard International (five ships) and Hanwha Ocean (six ships), with deliveries expected around 2028. Evergreen will pay about $1.77 billion for the Hanwha-built ships and $1.47 billion for those from GSI. This order follows Evergreen’s 2023 contract for 24 methanol dual-fuel containerships from Samsung Heavy Industries and Nihon Shipyard, scheduled for delivery between 2026 and 2027.
