Fluor Corporation, in joint venture with JGC Corporation, has been awarded the contract to update the Front End Engineering and Design for a potential Phase 2 expansion of the LNG Canada facility in Kitimat, B.C., following the recent commissioning of Phase 1 and its first few LNG shipments. The expansion would boost processing, storage, and shipping capacity at the 14-million-tonne-per-year plant, which supplies low-carbon natural gas to global markets under a 40-year license. While a final investment decision has not been made, the project’s backers, Shell, Petronas, PetroChina, Mitsubishi, and KOGAS, are exploring the next phase, with Fluor highlighting the facility’s role in supporting the energy transition.
