The United Kingdom introduced the Seafarers’ Charter to ensure fair treatment and improved conditions for thousands of seafarers. The new charter aims to offer every seafarer equitable wage, adequate rest periods, and comprehensive training irrespective of their vessel’s flag or nationality. France intends on introducing a similar initiative as both countries confirm their commitment to prioritizing the welfare of seafarers.

In the recent past, the UK government has advanced several measures to protect domestic seafarers including the Seafarers’ Wages Act as well as code of practice, which includes guidelines and regulations aimed at preventing exploitation by ensuring fair treatment and working conditions.
