The International Longshore and Warehouse Union Local 514 now has a strike mandate but has postponed issuing a 72-hour strike notice against DP World Canada at the Centerm terminal, choosing instead to engage in federal mediation.  In its media release, the union notest that three key issues remain outstanding – DP World Canada’s implementation of semi-automation, centralized dispatching, and the use of management dispatchers at its Nanaimo terminal. The union’s contract expired on March 31, 2023.
