The BCMEA and ILWU Local 514 will resume their hearing with the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) from August 6 to 9, 2024, to address the legality of the Union’s manning proposal with DP World (Canada) Inc., which the BCMEA argues is illegal and constitutes bad faith bargaining. ILWU Local 514 plans to hold an industry-wide strike vote in the coming weeks, completing by August 9, 2024, and has assured no 72-hour strike notice will be issued until after the vote. This move follows the CIRB’s July 7, 2024, ruling that a previous strike vote and notice were illegal. The BCMEA remains committed to a fair settlement and has previously offered a 19.2% wage increase to enhance foreperson compensation significantly, along with additional payments.
