Ms. Karin Orsel, co-founder and CEO of the MF Shipping Group in the Netherlands, has been named the recipient of the 2025 IMO Gender Equality Award. The award recognizes individuals who advance gender equality and empower women in the maritime sector. Ms. Orsel, endorsed during the IMO Council’s 133rd session, will receive the honor in May 2025 as part of the International Day for Women in Maritime celebrations. Starting her maritime career at 18, she has led MF Shipping Group to oversee a fleet of over 55 vessels, fostering inclusivity and diversity in her leadership roles. She has also championed gender equality and seafarer welfare through positions in prominent maritime organizations, including WISTA International, ECSA, and ISWAN.
