Published in the Canada Gazette Part I – May 18, 2024 is an Interim Order Respecting Area 2 of the Pacific Pilotage Authority Region, stated to deal with an urgent issue related to the provision of pilotage services that pose a significant risk to safety, human health or the environment.  The Interim Order extends the compulsory pilotage area to essentially 5 nm west of Race Rocks for laden crude oil tankers of 40,000 summer deadweight tonnage or more as recommended under the TERMPOL review for the Trans Mountain expansion.
