The U.S. Department of Transportation announced the award of more than $220 million in discretionary grant funding to improve port facilities in 16 states and territories through the Maritime Administration’s (MARAD) Port Infrastructure Development Program. Included in the announcement was $6.8M in support of the Bellingham Shipping Terminal Rehabilitation Project that will construct a larger, more robust heavy load area and the removal of rock outcrops in front of Berth 1 that limit the draft of ships docking at the facility. Seattle’s Terminal 5 will also receive $10M to upsize electric refrigerated plug capacity and improve on-terminal rail infrastructure.
