Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) and Chevron Shipping Company have partnered to equip a new LNG carrier with the Wind Challenger, a wind-assisted propulsion system. The 174,000 cubic meter vessel, under construction at Hanwha Ocean’s Geoje Shipyard, will be the world’s first LNG carrier to feature this innovative technology, with delivery expected in 2026. MOL’s Wind Challenger, which uses telescopic sails, aims to reduce fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. The system is designed to have minimal impact on the ship’s structure and operations, ensuring compatibility with existing LNG carrier designs.
