The Montreal Port Authority (MPA) has submitted and received confirmation of a complete permit application from Fisheries and Oceans Canada for in-water works tied to the Port of Montreal’s Contrecœur expansion. This milestone follows a favourable 2021 environmental decision and extensive studies, including habitat compensation measures for the copper redhorse. The project includes offsetting initiatives such as aquatic grass bed plantings, wetland development, tree planting, and wildlife habitat creation. Positioned along the St. Lawrence–Great Lakes corridor, the Contrecœur expansion is considered a strategic trade project that will enhance supply chain resilience and support Canadian exporters in accessing global markets.
