On May 27, 2025, the Prince Rupert waterfront community gathered to celebrate the grand opening of ILWU Local 505’s new union hall—a three-story, 10,000-square-foot facility designed to support the city’s growing port workforce. The $8.2 million project, led by the union with funding support from the BCMEA, DP World, and the Prince Rupert Port Authority, marks one of the largest commercial developments in the downtown core. Local 505 President Keith Cociani emphasized the hall’s importance as both a community space and a tool for navigating the future of maritime labour. The union also honoured Glen Edwards with the title of President Emeritus for his transformative leadership from 2000 to 2020.
