Approximately 1,300 employees from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) are joining the ranks of tens of thousands of workers targeted in massive firings across the US federal government as part of the Trump administration’s campaign to reduce the workforce and cut spending. NOAA’s official mission is to understand and predict changes in climate, weather, ocean, and coasts, and public safety concerns are emerging and any degradation in forecast quality or timeliness could have cascading impacts throughout the economy.
