One of the world’s largest container ships, the MSC China, capable of carrying 24,000 containers, was delivered to China Shipbuilding Trading Corporation and Mediterranean Shipping Company one month ahead of schedule. The vessel, the 13th ultra-large container vessel with a capacity of 24,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU), was designed by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding Group and constructed by China Shipbuilding Trading Corporation and Jiangnan Shipyard. It incorporates modern equipment to reduce fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, including an air lubrication system to cut energy consumption and carbon emissions by 3 to 4 percent. The vessel has a molded width of 61.5 metres and a molded depth of 33.2 metre, and measures nearly 400 metres in length. It has been assigned a classification by Det Norske Veritas (DNV).
