The Panama Canal Authority will introduce a new “NetZero Slot” system on October 3, reserving weekly transit capacity exclusively for low-emission ships starting the week of November 2–8, 2025. Eligible dual-fuel vessels capable of running on fuels such as green methanol, ammonia, bio-LNG, or bio-LPG can compete for the slots, which will be awarded based on cargo status, tonnage, and past contributions. Winning ships will gain guaranteed 24-hour passage, Just-in-Time service, and flexible scheduling. The program underscores the Canal’s goal of net-zero emissions by 2050 and creates a clear market incentive for greener fleet investments.
