On August 15, the Panama Canal celebrated 111 years of operations, reaffirming its commitment to sustainability and global trade leadership. Since its 1914 inauguration, the canal has doubled its capacity, expanded locks, and reinvested revenues into Panama’s development. Canal Administrator Ricaurte Vásquez Morales highlighted its pledge to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, including goals such as hybrid tugboats and watershed conservation. Current projects include creating a lake in the Río Indio watershed to improve water security for over two million Panamanians.
