Pembina Pipeline Corp. and the Haisla Nation have postponed the final investment decision on the Cedar LNG project to mid-2024, delaying earlier projections for an end-of-first-quarter decision. The Cedar LNG project, a proposed floating liquefied natural gas facility in Kitimat aims to export LNG to Asian markets and would become the largest Indigenous-owned infrastructure project in Canada. Pembina CEO Scott Burrows cited ongoing negotiations for commercial offtake agreements, the need for third-party agreements, and project financing as reasons for the delay. This project is among several in Canada aiming to establish an LNG export industry, which proponents argue could help reduce global greenhouse gas emissions by replacing coal.
