Port Everglades has marked a milestone by welcoming its first LNG-powered cargo vessel, Quetzal, operated by Crowley. While LNG-fueled cruise ships have previously called at the port, this is the first LNG-fueled cargo ship to do so. The Quetzal, part of Crowley’s new Avance Class fleet designed for US–Central America–Caribbean trade, can carry 1,400 TEUs and 300 refrigerated containers. Port officials commended Crowley’s commitment to decarbonization and innovation in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, positioning LNG as a key component of the port’s and industry’s cleaner energy future.
